Final Memory

In the book " The End or Something Like That" the main chaacter Emma could not let go of her old life. The conflict being of letting go and always remembering the memories she had with her bestfriend. With that conflict she lied, and sometimes couldn't understand what was going on, whether to do something or not, and even asking herself, where she was at the point. Not saying in a way where the death of her bestfriend wasn't letting her move on, losing someone is hard and I understand as well as many other do. The hardest step is accepting they're gone & that's what Emma just about had a problem with. She couldn't let go of her old life, couldn't accept that it was time to move on and continue to try and be happy. Overall, she did overcome this conflict, but to this day many suffer thru it & are in Emma's or were in her shoes. The conflict is relatable, and very trus. Moving on isn't easy, but neither impossible.

Saying I Wouldn't

In the book "The End Or Something Like That" by Ann Dee Ellis, Emmy recently had lost her friend and also a teacher, although she didn't think Ms. Homeyer was kind. " I wasn't going to go to Ms. Homeyer's funeral." " Why would I go to her funeral?", "but for some reason, I felt like I had to go. Like I was supposed to go". So then Emmy did end up going with her two classmates that were also in Ms. Homeyer's class. Emmy knew it was the right thing to go to her funeral, but she felt like she had done a lot to hurt Emmy, but she wasn't all bad. Although though, she was saying one thing to herself about not going, yet she went. That then just tells me that she isn't a bad person, that she knows what's right from wrong, and if she feels like she has to do something she isn't exactly fully comfortable with, she faces it and sucks it up. As a character in the book she seems to really think one thing to herself but ending up saying another. So showing then, she thinks before she speaks and goes over what she's about to decide on and not make the wrong choice.

Learning to live

In the book " The End or Something Like That" by Ann Dee Ellis, two friends that planned to have forever together, didn't. Kim the friend of the main character Emmy, had passed away, leaving Emmy with many unanswered questions. "Why Kim" "how did she know it was gonna happen". The message I was able to get through this book was that sooner or later you'd have to let go, and learn how to live being happy. Emmy thinking to herself that Kim wouldn't have wanted her down all the time trying to change things from her perspective, but couldn't. I was able to understand that you have to learn to live without some certain people but always know that they are there. That's simple and maybe too easy for an amazing books like this but, it's true. Learning to live on with life might be hard but isn't impossible, you should be happy and always know that they are they with you in your heart.

Marbles

Shyima Hall was an eight year old girl who was later sold into slavery. She was mistreated, abused, and her justice was not given till she later grew. Shyima had been staying with her captors "The Mom" and "The Dad". She wasn't able to play while she stayed with them, but she remembered one game she considered herself good at, was "Marbles". "To play we drew a circle in the dirt or outlined a circle on the street with chalk. Then each of the players put some marbels inside the circle. When it was my turn, I'd take a slightly larger marble and try to knock some of the others out of the circle. Any marbles that I knocked out, I got to keep. I had a lot of marbles!" said Shyima. So even when Shyima was suffering through the thoughts she was, this memory meant so much to her because she remembers that being one good part of what she was able to live. That "memory moment" was something she came to remember while seeing the kids that she took care of play, also proved how different they were.

" Why, why, why"

Shyima Hall, also known as Shyima El-Sayed Hassan from the book "Hidden Girl" by herself with Lisa Wysocky,  was an eight year old girl from Alexandria, Egypt. Shyima was given into slavery for a debt her sister Zahra had caused, but although Zahra caused it, Shyima was the one to pay. A day came around where Zahra had caused far too much trouble for " The Mom & The Dad ", the owners of the household. Shyima & her mother had made the decision to swing by, around the wrong time. " The Mom " & Shyima's mom had come to an agreement " that the fair thing for everyone was for another girl to work in Zahra's place." , " the pit of my stomach lurched when I realized the girl they were talking about was me", Shyima said to herself. " Why did my mother not say no?" " why did she not fight for me?" , Shyima told herself over, and over again. Later on as she began working in the house hold day & night she'd continue asking herself, "why me". She was only eight years old and she had been given to pay off a family grief her sister had caused, " I was expected to become their domestic slave". Shyima just wasn't able to find the answer, at least for now. It was a hard question, with even an harder answer.

Emma's Reaction.

In the book Blind, Emma Sasha Silver the main character suffers from an accident of her being blind, which causes her to have a lot of confusion with not only herself but with others & frustration. In the book her family tried to help her overcome and help her adjust with the incident she had suffered. In the book Emma has a hard time trying to accept the fact of her being blind along with many personality issues. Her family as well has a rather had time adjusting so they try their best in finding ways that they could help. In one scene of the book her father tries to convince her that going back to school was something that had to be done sooner or later, her mother on the other hand said with time she could go back when she felt ready. With frustration Emma replies angrily or with frustration, "I'm not going anywhere"  and sends her dad off with a feeling no parent wants to be given which is not being wanted in general nor the help. I question myself why she would respond this way to her parents because I get that out of frustration she might have said the things she said and gave them that feeling, but why would you want to reject or deny help from someone else that actually really cares about you? Why didn't she give it off to other people who maybe we're just showing pity? That is just a question that pops up in my head every now and then, because a lot of people are like that, but many don't suffer from the same incident Emma did.

You Will Never See Me Fall & Blind.

The book Blind by Rachel Dewoskin and the poem You Will Never See Me Fall by Joyce Alcantara both contain a type of thought where both of these authors had the idea of them giving up, wasn't going to be in the picture. The book contains a 15 year old girl who suffers from the incident of her being blind, in the poem it says no where that she/he is also blind, but not stating it doesn't mean it isn't implied to that person too. In both writings they both struggled, with reading the book Blind, Emma was suffering with her adapting to the new lifestyle she had to get used to because of the situation she was in. Not clearly being stated what struggles the person in the poem was going thru, but as said " you may see me struggle, but you will NEVER see me fall" states that she must've been going for thru her own type of problems but not maybe alike to Emma's obstacles. Comparing those two, I found that they both struggle but try to not have the world "fall" or "give up" in the picture. They might've had different type of problems, but both "struggle" and don't give up.

Center Of Blind

The book Blind by Rachel Dewoskin, gives you the opportunity to read about the experience of another. In the book Emma suffers from an accident where a fun celebration turns into a never ending  dark, nightmare. Emma & her father were celebrating the fourth or July watching fire works close, but a little to close. Unfortunately, Emma had been hit with one of the fireworks that had been lit, and not only feel then pain among her face, but losing her sight. " Where am I?" " What is - Take this off!"she said to herself as she laid in the hospital bed the following day. Not being able to see her parents but hear them say " you're awake; Emma you're okay, youre, Emma. Emma. Emma". From then on "progress" was what she was doing. Attempting to go back to school, adapt to the many changes that had came her way due to this incident. With the help of her parents, siblings and her friends she over time is able to accept and adapt. Not giving up would just be a plain simple theme, so all in all the message I was able to get from this story was even though times get rough, to keep trying & with time things can fall into place with your effort and the help of others. Without Emma's parents or family & close friends, Emma would've just gotten angry with herself and always questioning herself why that incident has happened to HER, but she didn't. So Emma became her own person, and was also able to find herself again.

Déjà Vu

In the book Blind by Rachel Dewoskin, something that seems to always come to Emma's mind is the money. If her parents were spending too much, if they'd have enough for the rest of her siblings, "Worth four laptops?". Emma kept thinking that her sister was just complaining to rub it in her face or since she didn't agree that the man that has stepped on to speak with Emma's parents was hot. "The best" for Emma wanted to be provided due to her accident, and Emma felt thankful but worried again because she had other siblings her parents needed to worry about & provide certain things. Flashbacks would come back where she never noticed if they were struggling to provide those certain things for her siblings or her. With the accident then did she only realize that she had two amazing parents & she couldn't be more thankful. Even though her siblings would try bringing up the fact of the money being used for her supplies, she would try to ignore them due to the fact her mother moment after moment would always tell her to not even worry about it. Those memory moments say a lot because she might have had some adjusting to do and gave to realize a lot that was going on around her that she didn't realize before, but now? She couldn't be more thankful & aware.

Limiting Anne.

Anne Frank thirteen years old went on living three more years of her life living in an attic with her family, another and a 50 year old man. From day to night having restraints if the time, the things they were able to do at a certain time. She had to restrain herself, from being herself due to the fact of if the green police were to find them, her and her family would've been sent to concentration camps, or be punished severely for hiding and not giving when they called. Anne and me would have nothing in common with the adversity she faced, because she had limits and thanks to now having laws that are able to give me my freedom I am able to do things she could not do, and feeling but but glad at the same time I can do those things. I wouldn't have been able to do what she done. So she was courageous and something similar would be that we tried seeing these in positive ways even if they weren't all good at the moment. Anne and me, are two very different people. Thane grew up with two very different lifestyles, both good, and bad.

Inside & Out.

Emma Sasha Silver, a teenager from "Blind" who'd lost not only her sight but herself. Emma losing her sight was a problem, but not the only one she faced. Inside shed feel as if she saw herself as a whole new person, not recognizing who she once was, she said " sometimes the accident seems like the beginning of my entire life. I can't fully remember who I was before". With that being said, she states herself that she couldn't recall who she once was, and she felt as if she wasn't "Emma" anymore. On the outside, her parents encouraging and trying to have the right amount of patience to have Emma have the courage to go back to school, Emma has a hard time trying to accept that she is actually not going to be able to see again for a while, and she began talking back to her parents. Just a normal discussion could lead to swearing, and frustration for Emma while her parents on the other hand as she could feel, would feel down or feel bad the way she was acting, but they understood that her situation would take some getting used to and they had to have patience. Those internal and external conflicts, seems tough so far. Hopefully, they get better overtime and Emma finds her identify.

By & Upstanding

I believe that the up standers said something and did something about what was occurring with the extermination camps, with the loss of families and loved relatives/friends, because they saw and probably wanted to do something about it because they had nothing to lose. The bystanders probably just stood aside and did nothing about it due to the fact of being scared and risking what they had left, like their lives or family. Something that made them stand up and resist to the Nazi's was religious beliefs, they would resist to the actions the nazis were doing. Something I could have done was speak up and gather people to prove that point, but at the same time resist the fact of being killed. That's what after reading this unit made me think & reflect.

Getting To My Roots.

If I had the decision to travel anywhere I the world, I'd definitely go to Mexico since both of my parents came from there but different parts. My mom is from a small town called Buenavista in Guerrero. My dad on the other hand came from the city & both came from definitely two different lifestyles. My mom grew up to become the queen of her small town, which is one of the reasons I'd want to visit her small town because I'd wanna know where she was when she had that memory. My dad grew up with many step brothers and sisters but he always mentioned these huge lake where'd they all sneak off to go swim in. "The water feels so refreshing, that it clears you mind from all the problems around you" my dad once said to me. He told me many stories of how my aunt and uncles would always be the one trying to hold him back from jumping the top rock into the lake, but in the ne they'd all just end up doing it as well. Just thinking about the experience they had makes me just wanna get up and go and feel that water against me. Buenavista is surrounded by mountains, or large bodies of land. My mom too said there was a huge waterfall by her house and that her siblings and her would go there to shower since many of them back then didn't have water to actually shower. My uncles had a large role that they once had used to climb to the other side of the house to an abandoned  house roof where'd they forget their problems and come up with solutions to them. In the end they needed up tying the rope to a tree close to the waterfall and would hold on and drop into the large body of water. Hearing all those exciting and adventurous stories makes me really wanna see and know what my parents once felt, and make me feel like we'd have a stronger bond. So that's why Mexico out of all the places in the world would be where I would go.

Behind Harry Potter.

The story of Harry Potter comes with I believe the theme of courage. In the book there are parts where Harey Potter, Hermoine Granger, Ron Weasly, all sacrifice their lives and even their education at Hogwarts. From the scene of being in the bathroom all three attempting to escape viscous and terrifying troll. With the attempt of trying to keep Hermoine from getting hurt, Ron casts spells on the troll to take him down, while Harry also begins to take action to not letting the troll hurt his true friends. Taking the risk of trying to di over the truth took a lot of braverymp, courage and really the guts to do what they did. Lord Voldemort was around Hogwarts trying to become in power and Harry was not going to permit that. Harry battled his long life enemy even if he knew his life would be in risk of saving many of those who didn't deserve to be taken. Defeating finally " You- Know- Who" reviled being of no one else could get hurt, Harry was then recognized for his bravery and courage along with his friends Hermoine & Ron. So that is why I came to think that the theme of this book would be that it is courage due to the many scenes that happened with many proving that point.

Sorcers Stone Vs. The Pregnancy Project.

Gaby Rodriguez and Harry Potter are two teenagers, but from two completely different worlds. While Gaby lives in the real world with real life problems let's say with her parents, or friends. Harry goes against evil teachers, spells, and against "You-Know-Who", or Lord Voldemort. While they both face the fact of feeling underestimated, since they're just kids they both make the decision of taking matters into their own hands and trying taking care of situation themselves. They both suffer situations with parents situations with their parents or in Harry's case, step parents. While one also faces a fantasy one faces the real world, with this horrifying thing we called today "society". Both coming from two different worlds, they are both still teenagers and go thru a situation where they'd have to take matters into their own hands,

Resolution.

The year of 2016 has began and only so little can be properly done with time. Something I'd want to work on his trying to be more organized with things, meaning at school home, anywhere. With that my daily life would become a lot easier since unlike now I wouldn't always have to be asking my mom where things were or create a mess trying to find that one thing. Some ways I plan to get to actually make this happen this year is starting to place things where they belong, get rid of things I no longer need or use, or give it to someone who does. Take a day, clean here and there, and try organizing things to make life ten times easier. I'm looking forward to this since I think with this resolution it will be a lot more easier to complete work on time, and not having to suffer from those struggles.

Sorcerers Stone Part One.

Harry Potter and The Sorcerers Stone, a book written by J.K Rowling. Beginning to read chapter one baby Harry's parents had been killed by " You- Know- Who" or as Professor Mcgonagal stated. or more specifically "Voldemort". The term "You-Know-Who" was used since she is unable to speak Voldemort's name out. Along with the parents of Harry, "You-Know-Who" made the attempt of also taking Harry's life away but, failed. The news was heard, and wizards at Hogwarts immediately took action.  A family living in Surrey England who'd claimed to have known the Potters for quite some time were the only hope to where Harry had a place close enough to call home. The Dursleys, were a family with a thought of keeping the way others saw them, and having an acceptable look which they have been keeping and attempting to stay with. Professor gave the devastating news to Dumbledore, who had insisted to having Harry stay with the Dursley's, since unfortunately they had no one else in mind. The decision was taken, Harry would be left with the Dursley's and would hopefully be in good hands. Hagrid, a giant who'd been carrying Harry showed up at the Dursley's, along with Dumbledore & Professor Mcgonagal already being there. Harry was placed at the doorstep of the Dursleys house, along with an explanation letter & the three, parted ways hoping the best for Harry.
